Terminate Indexing
While a lot of tech geeks are buying a new computer every year or two, there are also people who don’t pay that much attention to their hardware. This might be because they do not use their computers as often, or because they prefer to spend money on something else. Of course, this means that many programs or even operating systems such as Windows XP might not work as smoothly as the user would like. There are some tricks to improve the performance of your machine by disabling some features which Windows XP has enabled by default. One of the things which many people recommend is to disable indexing. Basically, indexing keeps a record of all files on your hard drive, but this is not something crucial or something that you would take advantage of, unless you are performing a search. You can disable it to get a performance boost by going to Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools and double-clicking Services. Next, you should scroll to the indexing service, double click it and select Disabled from the Startup pull-down menu. This should improve your computer’s performance if your PC is not up to date. There are a lot of tricks like this to speed up your computer without buying new hardware, and often it is a good idea to take advantage out of such tips, instead of spending money.
