Choose the Best Cell Phone

Monday, August 30th, 2010

With such a big choice of cell phones on the market, it is a very difficult task to choose the most suitable one for you. The type of cell phone you need depends on what you require from it. If you just buy it to make calls and send an SMS occasionally, it means you are not very demanding. In such a case a basic version of a mobile phone will be sufficient for you. On the other hand, if you plan on listening to a radio station on your phone or connecting to the Internet, you can expect that the price you will have to pay will be a lot higher. This does not mean however that the choice of phones will be smaller when your requirements grow. On the contrary, stores offer us such a wide choice like it was never seen before. So, have fun while picking up the perfect cell phone for you.

It is also important to be able to find a good deal on a cellphone. In order to buy an inexpensive cell phone you may want to visit coupon websites, or visit online auction sites like eBay. If you do so you might be able to save a lot of money.

Games and the Music Industry

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

The music industry is experiencing some problems, as more and more people download music for free from the Internet. People also have many other hobbies besides listening to music, so there are not that many CDs being sold anymore. That is why those in the music industry are doing everything they can to release music video games, in order to encourage consumers to buy music. Games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band are quite promising, but I do not think that they will be enough to save the music industry. That is because, believe it or not, music is not such as attractive as it was a few decades ago. There are various kinds of entertainment right now, and the market is different right now.
Of course, it does not mean that music will cease to exist. Other forms of entertainment, such as games, are going to promote music. For example, Grand Theft Auto IV, which is a bestseller, has a lot of innovative features. I noticed that there was not a lot of discussion about music in GTA IV. The reason why I want to discuss it is that GTA IV has a very interesting way to buy music while playing the game. Generally speaking, GTA is an action game which features driving cars among other vehicles, and allows the players to listen to the in-game radio while you are driving around. In total it features around 200 tracks, which is the largest amount in videogame history. The feature that is especially interesting lets players tag any song in the soundtrack in order to receive more information about the title and artist. It also stores the chosen tracks in a playlist on the Amazon digital music store in order to purchase them later. I think that GTA is a proof that music will always be popular.

Speaker Systems

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

There is a quite big variety of speakers on the market. For an average consumer it might be very hard to make a choice. That is why I am going to give a quick overview of different speaker systems:

  • 2.0 are a basic type of speakers – one on the left and one of the right. These is the most popular type of speakers for those who do not watch movies in front of their computer and for those who do not play games.
  • The 2.1 configuration adds a bass speaker, which enhances the quality of music. It is a popular choice for those who listen to music a lot.
  • Great speakers for games are of the 4.1 variety. This will allow you to hear the sound all around you. This can add immersion in many situations. It can enhance the experience of watching movies and playing games.
  • 5.1 speakers are for those who plan to watch movies at their computer. The front-center speaker passes all the dialogue, while the other allow you to hear sounds from different directions. You will have a great experience of watching movies with these speakers.
  • Lastly, the 6.1 configuration adds a third surround channel called center-surround. With 6.1 DVD movie formats, those speakers might be useful, but they will not be as useful as in case of home-theater setups, due to short distance between speakers. However, they are the best choice for those who are really demanding.
  • What you need to remember is that you do not have to spend a lot of money on speakers in order to enjoy them. Many people have basic type of speakers and do not complain about it.

    Lawsuits Against Torrent Engines

    Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Torrent engines allow the distribution of very valuable materials. A lot of them are non-copyrighted and perfectly legal for distribution, but unfortunately some of them are pirated materials. That is why from time to time major Hollywood Studios accuse torrent directories such as torrentspy.com of distributing pirated material. In case of torrentspy.com, they won the battle. The court ordered torrentspy.com to pay $110,970,000 for distributing 3,699 films and shows. In my opinion, this number is quite hilarious, as I doubt that torrentspy.com has more than a couple of thousand of dollars lying around. Having said that, it is a decisive victory for Hollywood Studios, and even though they will probably not receive this amount of money, they definitely made a point. This is a great example of how justice works.

There is a bit different situation with MPAA, which has been vigorously engaged in fighting piracy for many years. The question arises if lawsuits will really help them win this war. MPAA has filled a lawsuit against a site that allegedly profits from piracy by indexing and posting links to what is believed to be pirated content. What is really interesting about this case is that MPAA was giving away free publicity to a mostly unknown site. Many people flocked to this site, which I prefer not to mention, to check out the site and see what it offers. This was especially true as there was a risk that it could shut down permanently. This site might have actually benefited more from this lawsuit than it had to lose.
As you see, there are some battles won against distributors of illegal content. However, there are also some battles that are lost. It is important that companies choose their battles wisely, because they cannot win all of them.

    Protecting Your Computer

    Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Protecting your computer form viruses, trojans, and other malicious infections is an important thing to do in order to keep your computer safe. There are many different antivirus programs available, as well as a wide choice of firewalls. Often you will find both antivirus and firewall features available in one program, usually called a security suite. While it is debatable which firewall/antivirus are the best to use, I would like to make some recommendations based on personal experience. First of all, I would not use a security suite, because the best antivirus and firewall is not available in any security suite. I recommend using a program like NOD32 as an antivirus, as it offers the best active protection. I also recommend using a firewall like Comodo Firewall because it protects as well as any paid firewall, but it is completely free.

    What Are Conversions and Impressions?

    Friday, August 13th, 2010

You might have noticed that I use the terms conversions and impressions from time to time, but I might have not explained them properly. To begin with, those are terms often used in affiliate marketing. You might have heard advertisers who use Google Adsense to use these terms quite often. Impressions are the numbers signifying the amount of times the page with affiliate ads has been visited. Since it is easier to manipulate the impressions count then conversions, usually you are not going to be paid solely because of high amount of impressions. On the other hand, conversions signify how many visitors performed an action you were paid for. Conversion rate is usually lower than 10%, and as a matter of fact it is often even lower than 0.5%. Conversions are actually the ratio of sales to impressions. So, for example, a 10% conversion rate would indicate that 1 in 10 people who visited a specific website decided to make a purchase. Impressions and conversions are a very important part of a marketing strategy. There are many people who specialize in maximizing the conversion rate, and what they do is they try to attract as many visitors to a website as possible. The amount of conversions will also depend on the attractiveness of a website. If there are enough call to action buttons, a visitor is a lot more likely to make a purchase. As a result of this, there will be also more conversions.

    Inventions

    Friday, August 6th, 2010

There are many inventions that changed our lives forever. Perhaps one of the most important inventions was the Internet as it allowed very easy communication and transfer of data between people across the world. Copyrights and trademarks protect important inventions and in some cases a Trademark Attorney can be useful. Protecting the rights of the company that invented something is important, because this way such a company can become even more successful and it might be able to flood the market with useful devices and inventions. What is the invention that you like the most? Is there something without which it would be difficult for you to imagine your life?
